The George Closed Due to Flooding | October 20th 2023

Statement From The George Hathersage

Unfortunately due to flooding, The George Hathersage is completely closed to hotel guests, restaurant bookings and bar visitors.

The storm and heavy rain have caused extensive flooding to the cellar, kitchen, ground floor bedrooms, bar and restaurant. For the health and safety of our guests and staff we have no other option but to stay closed until further notice.

Flood specialists will join us on site tomorrow to pump out the last of the water. We will then undergo a deep clean, sanitation testing, gas and electric safety testing and be able to assess the damage and a strategy to repair and reopen as quickly as possible.

As you can imagine, my team and I are utterly heartbroken and we do not want to disappoint guests. Our team at The Maynard are calling all guests of The George to accommodate and facilitate restaurant bookings where possible. We are informing all hotel guests that we are closed with no alternative accommodation available this weekend as The Maynard is fully booked.

We will come back to you after the weekend with an update on the state of play. At this moment we are extremely sorry for the disappointment caused by our closure.

Thank you for your understanding,

Rob Hattersley
