Try our new Winter/Spring menus at The George
Fresh seasons call for fresh flavours. At The George, we are delighted to welcome our new Winter and Spring menus from Wednesday 21 January.
Crafted by our executive chef Adrian Gagea, these dishes celebrate comforting classics, vibrant seasonal ingredients and thoughtful twists that make every visit feel like a treat.
It is the perfect excuse to book a table, settle in and enjoy a relaxed meal in the heart of the Peak District.
New year, new flavours
A new season always brings a fresh burst of creativity in our kitchen.
This time, Adrian has blended inventive new dishes with the much loved favourites that regulars would never forgive us for removing. The result is a menu that feels both reassuring and exciting, rooted in classic pub dining yet lifted with modern touches.
Our menus are inspired by the produce we receive from trusted local suppliers, so what you see on the plate reflects what is at its best right now.
Think vibrant greens, rich sauces, slow cooked meats and desserts that strike the perfect balance between indulgent and light.
Highlights from the new menu
Starters to set the tone
There is citrus cured salmon with dill and horseradish cream cheese mousse, served with a crisp spring salad for a bright, elegant beginning.
For something heartier, the pork, rum and caramelised onion scotch egg comes with burnt apple purée and slaw, a proper pub classic with a refined edge.
Seafood lovers will be tempted by the white crab ballotine, served with a bouillabaisse style sauce, brown crab butter, toasted sourdough, crispy whitebait and pea shoots, a dish that feels both coastal and comforting.
Mains to look forward to
The orzo salad with grilled tenderstem broccoli and asparagus, pickled radishes and sun dried tomatoes is light yet satisfying, with the option to add grilled rump steak, buttermilk chicken, roasted Jerusalem artichoke or citrus cured salmon.
For a richer choice, the slow cooked porchetta stuffed with spinach and pork ragu is served with creamy mashed potato, roasted heritage carrots and sautéed sugar snaps.
Plant based diners are well catered for too, with the chimichurri cauliflower steak, vanilla and cauliflower purée, quinoa, baby spinach and pomegranate salad and crisp vegetable shards offering bold flavours and beautiful colour.
Pizza lovers have not been forgotten.
New additions include the Arabic pizza with tahini marinated aubergine and courgettes, spiced crispy chickpeas and almonds and a mint and coriander yoghurt dressing.
The goat’s cheese and pine nuts pizza pairs honey and thyme glazed goat’s cheese with roasted fig chutney and peppadew peppers for a sweet savoury balance.
We’re also introducing a jerk chicken pizza topped with pepperoni, sweet chilli glazed sausages and red onions for those who like a little heat.
Sweet treats worth saving room for
Even when you are convinced you could not manage another bite, the dessert menu has a way of changing minds.
New favourites include a flourless chocolate brownie with matcha and olive oil mousse, salted caramel ice cream and honeycomb crumb.
The yuzu tart served with peach yoghurt ice cream is fresh and zesty, while the dark chocolate cheesecake with a green tea and oat base and mango sorbet is a dream for chocolate lovers.
One dessert comes with an extra reason to indulge.
The strawberry panna cotta with pickled strawberries and balsamic and strawberry coulis is our charity dessert for The George. One pound from each sale goes to The Ruth Strauss Foundation, so every spoonful does a little good.
