Legendary food and drink, forged in the fires of Derbyshire.

Relaxed, contemporary food and drink, familiar surroundings and an easy-going warmth you only find with local hospitality — we’re legends around these parts. Nestled in the Peak District’s Hope Valley, The George brings together everything our visitors love about simple, effortless comfort and the vibrant character of our stunning Derbyshire countryside.

A legendary local everybody can call their own.

Enjoy more at The George.

Acquired by Rob Hattersley of Longbow Bars & Restaurants in June 2021, The George has undergone a huge transformation. Not just in aesthetics but offering also. Dated décor and antiquated ambiance has been replaced by friendly and inviting surroundings and food and drink you would want 7 days a week. The 500 year old building, frequented by Charlotte Bronte, has been returned to its former glory as a contemporary coaching inn showcasing the beautiful features of original oak beams and exposed stonework with modern styling.

The George’s doors are open 365 days a year for food, drinks and overnight stays. The venue has been opened up with a contemporary restaurant, relaxing lounge area and buzzy bar. We welcome well behaved dogs in the pub area, who will always be greeted with a treat from our canine loving team.

The brilliant team at The George

Cream of the crop local producers and suppliers have been selected for all food & drinks. We only provide the best (but at a reasonable price that we think is fair). Our menus are designed with our guests in mind, we pride ourselves on tasty, delicious food, done well. You will not find a gel, foam or edible flower at The George and this is the way we like it.

We believe few things are more important than community, togetherness and the warmth of local hospitality. With an established history in the heart of Hope Valley spanning generations, we like to think we’re a big part of that, even today. Whether we’re showcasing the very best produce of our beautiful county or working locally within the community, we’re incredibly proud to bring people together in the name of family, friendship and good times shared by all.
